Cavs and Nets open home-and-home set in Newark

Nov 9, 2010 - 3:38 PM (Sports Network) - So much for the inspirational 2-0 start for the New Jersey Nets, who will try to put the brakes on a four-game losing streak tonight versus the Cleveland Cavaliers in the opener of a home-and-home series from the Prudential Center.

These two teams will meet again Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena.

New Jersey is coming off Saturday's 101-89 loss at Miami in which Anthony Morrow scored 25 points and Brook Lopez ended with 12. Rookie Derrick Favors, the third overall pick in June's draft, scored 11 points off the bench for the Nets, who shot 41.2 percent from the field.

"We made shots in the first half," said Nets guard Devin Harris, who had just six points in defeat. "Those same shots did not fall for us in the second half. We gave up a bunch of transition buckets. They made a run at the right time and we were not able to recover."

Cleveland will close out a three-game road trip Tuesday and has won the first two tests of the trek since dropping three in a row.

The Cavaliers opened the trek with Friday's win in Philadelphia, then recorded a 107-102 triumph the next night in Washington. Mo Williams scored a game-high 28 points and Daniel Gibson added 19 for Cleveland.

"He broke them down on our pick-and-roll offense," Cavs head coach Byron Scott said of Williams in the closing minutes. "Our guys seized the moment."

Anthony Parker and Ryan Hollins netted 13 and 11 points, respectively, in a winning effort, while Anderson Varejao grabbed 11 rebounds to go with eight points for the Cavs.

In injury news for Cleveland, Gibson (personal) and forward Antawn Jamison (knee) are both listed as probable for tonight's game in New Jersey. Jamison has missed the last three games.

Cleveland won all four meetings with the Nets a year ago and eight in a row overall. The Cavs are unbeaten in their last four trips to New Jersey.
