Millsap, Jazz shoot for Sunshine State sweep vs. Magic
Nov 10, 2010 - 4:10 PM (Sports Network) - The streaking Orlando Magic will resume a three-game homestand this evening versus the Utah Jazz from Amway Arena.Orlando has won four in a row and opened its residency with Monday's 93-89 triumph over Southeast Division-rival Atlanta in a rematch of last season's playoff series won by the Magic.
Dwight Howard was a force with 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Vince Carter added 19 points for the Magic, who have won five of six to begin the season and all four games at their new arena.
"It was great to see that we weren't going to give up," said Howard, who is averaging a career-best 23.2 points. "The Hawks came out and made a lot of shots early and seemed like they didn't want to miss. Earlier we couldn't buy a basket, but instead of holding our heads and arguing with each other or fighting, we took a stand."
The Magic will also host Toronto on the homestand. Guard Jameer Nelson (ankle) is listed as questionable for tonight's game. He has missed two straight games because of the problem.
Utah got its four-game road trip off to a good start with Tuesday's 116-114 overtime win at Miami. Paul Millsap finished with a career-high 46 points and Deron Williams chipped in 21 points and 14 assists for the Jazz, who had lost their previous seven meetings in Miami.
"It shows you what (Millsap) is about," Utah head coach Jerry Sloan said. "When it gets tough, he doesn't stop working. That's what he has been doing since he's been with us, and works at his game to make himself better. He works on every little aspect of the game all the time, and that gives you a chance to get better. He is a no nonsense guy when he plays."
Andrei Kirilenko had 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a winning effort. C.J. Miles netted 12 points off the bench.
The Jazz will also visit Atlanta and Charlotte on the trek.
Orlando and Utah split a pair of meetings a year ago, with each team holding serve on its own floor. The Magic have won six of the last nine matchups between the teams.
Utah has dropped six of seven visits to central Florida.
