Clippers hope to halt skid against Knicks
Nov 20, 2010 - 3:45 PM (Sports Network) - The lowly Los Angeles Clippers hope to avoid a ninth straight loss Saturday night when they entertain the New York Knicks in the opener of a three-game homestand at Staples Center. The Clips dropped their latest game in Indianapolis on Thursday when Danny Granger finished with a game-high 22 points and Roy Hibbert added 18 points and eight rebounds as Indiana topped Los Angeles, 107-80.
Eric Gordon finished with 19 points while Blake Griffin and Al-Farouq Aminu added 12 points apiece in the loss for the Clippers, who are 0-7 on the road and 1-5 at home and are off to their worst start since 1998-99 (1-17).
"Our lack of offense in transition helped them," said Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro. "Hibbert killed us inside and Indiana moved the ball well."
The Clips haven't lost nine in a row since dropping 12 straight from Dec. 20, 2008-Jan. 14, 2009.
LA, which continues to toil without center Chris Kaman (sprained left ankle) and point guard Baron Davis (sore left knee), will also face New Orleans and Sacramento on its residency.
The Knicks, meanwhile, improved to 2-1 on a four-game western road swing last night in Oakland when Raymond Felton had a career-high 35 points and 11 assists to lift New York over the Golden State Warriors, 125-119.
Danilo Gallinari had 23 points, including three treys down the stretch to help New York, which has won two straight after breaking a six-game skid with Wednesday's victory over Sacramento. Amare Stoudemire chipped in 26 points and 11 boards in the victory.
"We're a very young team, so it's going to take time for us to learn how to win down the stretch," Stoudemire said. "As we learn the offense, as we get used to each other and chemistry starts to develop, we have to find out a way to pull out these type of wins. Tonight was a great effort for us."
The Knicks swept the home-and-home series between the two clubs last year after the Clippers did the same in the previous two seasons.
