Jackson makes Bobcats history in win over Suns
Nov 21, 2010 - 7:49 AM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Stephen Jackson finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to notch the first triple-double in Bobcats history as Charlotte easily handled Phoenix, 123-105, at Time Warner Cable Arena."We needed a win. I was happy with the win. I wasn't concerned about the triple-double," Jackson said. "But it means a lot."
Boris Diaw scored a game-high 26 points and dished out six assists, and Tyrus Thomas added 22 points and six boards in a reserve role for Charlotte, which rebounded from Friday's loss in Miami.
D.J. Augustin supplied 16 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Gerald Wallace contributed 14 points in the win.
Grant Hill led Phoenix with 23 points, and Hedo Turkoglu added 18 points and five rebounds for the Suns, who have dropped three straight.
Goran Dragic, starting in place of the injured Steve Nash, added 17 points and 10 assists, and Jason Richardson finished with 13 points in the loss.
Hakim Warrick converted a three-point play with under seven minutes left to cut the Charlotte lead to eight, but the Bobcats responded like they did all game and regained their double-digit advantage.
Wallace connected on an alley oop from Jackson to end a nine-point burst and put the Bobcats up, 107-90, with 4:49 left. Then, Jackson knocked down a deep three to put Charlotte up by 20, 112-92, and the Bobcats cruised in the final three minutes.
Augustin scored nine points in the first quarter to help the Bobcats take a 30-25 advantage after 12 minutes.
Charlotte extended its lead to as many as 11 in the second quarter, but Hill shot 4-of-5 from the field to help the Suns get within 55-51 heading to the locker room.
Turkoglu hit a three at 9:35 in the third to tie the game at 58 -- it was the first triple made by Suns after an 0-for-8 first half. However, the Bobcats rallied with eight straight points, capped by Thomas' alley oop dunk off a Jackson pass, to silence the Phoenix surge.
Charlotte continued to expand its lead, and a Derrick Brown driving dunk with 2:11 left made it an 85-68 game. The Bobcats held a 89-74 lead heading to the final stanza.
