Hamilton powers Pistons past Wizards in OT

Nov 22, 2010 - 4:31 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Richard Hamilton scored 12 of Detroit's 13 overtime points to help the Pistons slip past Washington, 115-110, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Hamilton ended with a game-high 27 points, while Charlie Villanueva came off the bench for a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds to help Detroit bounce back from Wednesday's 103-90 loss to the Lakers.

Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee both had 20 points for Washington, which has dropped four of its last six games and has yet to win a road game this season.

Gilbert Arenas had 19 points an 16 assists and Nick Young chipped in with 18 points in the loss.

John Wall missed his fourth straight game for Washington with a sprained left foot. The Wizards are 2-2 without him.

Hamilton started his flurry of overtime points by making back-to-back jumpers to give the Pistons a 106-102 lead. But the Wizards hung close to tie the game three times. Young tied it twice with a dunk and a fade-away jumper, then Blatche made a long jumper to knot the game at 110 with 1:16 left to play.

Hamilton answered with another jump shot with just under a minute to go -- his third straight bucket for the Pistons -- and then netted two free throws to ice the game with 12.8 seconds on the clock.

"[Hamilton] had the juice and he had it flowing," said Pistons head coach John Kuester.

Washington was up seven points with 5:16 left in regulation after Young drove the lane and made a layup. Detroit retaliated with a 6-1 run over the next 2 1/4 minutes that put them within two, 97-95, when Rodney Stuckey hit two from the charity stripe.

Villanueva finished off the comeback with five points in the final 2:16. He made a double-pump acrobatic layup with 20.9 seconds left which sent the game into OT with the teams squared at 102.

The Pistons ended the opening quarter with a 7-2 run that was started by a Villanueva three pointer. Ben Wallace finished the quarter with a rebound and a layup to give Detroit a 24-17 lead after the first.

The game was tied four times during the second quarter. Washington went on a 7-0 run that was capped off by a Cartier Martin reverse layup to knot the game at 24. The Wizards took a 55-52 lead at halftime.

The teams remained close during the third period, which had three ties and four different lead changes, and the Wizards led, 78-77, heading into the final stanza.

Wallace collected 10 boards and four points...Washington shot 26.3 percent from the three point arc, while Detroit made 46.7 percent...Jason Maxiell had a season-high 14 points...The Pistons scored a season-high 115 points.
