Sizzling Spurs mosey into Minnesota

Nov 24, 2010 - 3:55 PM (Sports Network) - The sizzling San Antonio Spurs shoot for their 12th consecutive win and hope to remain perfect away from the Alamo City on Wednesday when they visit the Twin Cities to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves, a team that the Spurs historically dominate.

San Antonio has won 12 straight over the Wolves and 17 of the last 18 meetings in the series, including six consecutive at Target Center.

The Spurs improved to an NBA-best 12-1 on Monday in south Texas when Tony Parker scored 24 points with 10 assists, and Manu Ginobili tallied 25 points to go along with nine assists, as San Antonio downed Eastern Conference heavyweight Orlando, 106-97.

The Spurs scored 12 of the game's final 14 points to flip a one-point deficit into nearly a double-digit victory over the game's final 2 1/2 minutes. Tim Duncan and Matt Bonner each contributed 15 points for the Spurs. Bonner is an astounding 18-for-26 from beyond the arc since returning from a sprained ankle that cause him to miss six games.

"That's got to be one of the better games of the season for a lot of reasons," said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich. "They made those shots and we made the shots. Something like this is always a team effort."

San Antonio, which is 5-0 on the road and off to the best start in franchise history, hasn't lost since a 99-90 setback to New Orleans back on Oct. 30. A win tonight would give the Spurs their first 12-game winning streak since a 13-game spurt from Feb. 13-March 13, 2007.

Minnesota, meanwhile, has been much more competitive lately but dropped their second straight game in Oklahoma City on Monday when the Thunder welcomed Kevin Durant back from a two-game absence in a 117-107 win.

Kevin Love provided 24 points and 17 boards for the Timberwolves, who received 21 points from Darko Milicic, 17 out of Luke Ridnour and 15 from Michael Beasley in their fourth loss in five games overall.

"Our guys lost a little confidence at that point but we're growing and getting better," said Minnesota head coach Kurt Rambis. "Everyone has to realize we're not healthy yet so we're still not a complete team."
