Rockets soar over the Warriors

Nov 25, 2010 - 5:39 AM Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Kevin Martin scored 25 points, Luis Scola had 24 and the Houston Rockets snapped a four-game losing streak with a 111-101 victory over Golden State.

Scola also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Rockets, who led by as many as 14 points in the first quarter to take control of the game.

Dorell Wright led Golden State with 24 points and Stephen Curry added 21 in the Warriors' sixth loss in seven games.

How one-sided was the win? Kyle Lowry scored on a layup 45 seconds into the game to give the Rockets a 2-0 lead and they never trailed after that.

"They're small and if we move the ball we had a chance," Houston head coach Rick Adelman said of the Warriors. "We felt we could attack them at the basket. That's all we worked on [Tuesday in practice], keeping the movement going."

Rockets center Chuck Hayes, starting for the injured Yao Ming, had four of his five assists in the first quarter and added 12 points during the frame as Houston built a 36-23 lead on the strength of 58-percent shooting.

Hayes, a career 57-percent free throw shooter, made all eight of his attempts from the line in the first quarter.

Count Rockets forward Shane Battier among those who was glad the team didn't waste such an effort.

"You waste 8-for-8 from the line, that's a tough one," said Battier, who scored 13 points in the win.

The Rockets, just 4-10 on the season and still dealing with the absences of Yao and guard Aaron Brooks, are getting ready for a six-game stretch that will include road games in Charlotte, Dallas, Memphis and Chicago.

"We're looking to start something," said Battier. "Winning one game in this league is tougher than you can imagine. So hopefully we can take this on the road and get [a win] in Charlotte."

Houston cooled off in the second quarter, shooting just 33 percent to Golden State's 55, but still carried a 59-51 lead into the locker room.

The Rockets led by as many as 10 in the third quarter on the way to an 82-78 advantage and were ahead by as many as 13 in the fourth.

Game Notes

Hayes ended with 16 points...The Warriors were kicking off a three-game road trip with upcoming stops in Memphis and Minnesota...Monta Ellis had 18 points for Golden State, which shot 47 percent in the game took only 18 free throws (making 12)...Houston shot 48 percent...Martin made 14-of-15 free throws to lead Houston's 39-of-51 effort from the foul line.
