Mavericks end Spurs' winning streak at 12

Nov 27, 2010 - 5:31 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Dirk Nowitzki scored 26 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists, as the Dallas Mavericks halted San Antonio's winning streak at 12 with a 103-94 victory.

The Spurs came into Friday's game with a 13-1 record, their best start in franchise history. Dallas, though, prevented San Antonio from obtaining its first 13-game run since February 13-March 13, 2007.

Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion each chipped in 19 points for the Mavericks, who got 12 points apiece from Jason Kidd and Jason Terry.

"We didn't know what the streak (Spurs winning streak) was," Terry said. "It's just a matter that they're playing well, we've been playing pretty good and we know that this is our rival. This is what the rivalry is about. We play them three more times and probably in the playoffs again. They're playing well this year and they're not going to stop now just because they lost this one."

Dallas suspended center Brendan Haywood for the game due to an undisclosed violation of team rules.

Manu Ginobili finished with 31 points for the Spurs, who got 21 points from George Hill. Tim Duncan added 15 points and eight boards.

"Dallas did a great job tonight," Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich said. "As a group they executed better than we did. I think they were a bit hungry and a bit more competitive than we were tonight. It showed up in the fourth quarter when I think they scored 32 or 34 in the fourth quarter. They did a good job."

San Antonio led 29-27 after 12 minutes and took a 51-49 edge into the locker room. A tight third quarter resulted in the Spurs taking a 73-71 margin into the fourth.

The back-and-forth battle carried over to the final frame. Ginobili made a three-pointer and Hill dropped in a layup to give San Antonio an 88-86 edge with 4:45 remaining.

Dallas responded with a 9-0 run to take control. Marion got the burst started with a three-point play to put the Mavericks in front. After Tony Parker missed a floater, Terry was good on a jumper for a three-point Dallas lead.

Chandler made a layup and Nowitzki sank a jumper to cap the flurry for a 95-88 advantage with 1:44 to play.

Ginobili stopped the bleeding with a pair of free throws, but Terry essentially put the game out of reach with a three-point play that gave the Mavs a 98-90 lead with 1:16 remaining.
