Bucks hang on vs. Bobcats, stop skid at five

Nov 28, 2010 - 8:03 AM Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Brandon Jennings scored 32 points and the Milwaukee Bucks held on down the stretch for a 104-101 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.

Charlotte was within two points, 102-100, when Gerald Wallace was fouled going to the net with 7.1 seconds remaining. Wallace was injured on the play, leaving the game, and Milwaukee selected Kwame Brown to shoot the Bobcat free throws.

Brown went 1-of-2 from the line, getting Charlotte within a point, but Jennings iced the win for the Bucks on a pair of free throws with 5.7 seconds left.

Milwaukee played its third straight game without center Andrew Bogut (back soreness) and was also without starters Drew Gooden and Corey Maggette because of injuries.

Despite that, the Bucks snapped a five-game losing streak, getting 17 points from Ersan Ilyasova and 16 from John Salmons.

"Our bench stepped up for us today," said Ilyasova.

D.J. Augustin scored 26 to pace the Bobcats, and Wallace added 19 in Charlotte's fourth loss in six games.

The Bobcats never held a lead, but they made a game of it despite falling behind by 13 in the fourth quarter when Milwaukee's Luc Mbah a Moute completed a three-point play for a 93-80 lead.

Augustin had 10 points in the quarter, including a pair of free throws that started a 20-8 run for Charlotte. The burst was finished by Wallace's driving layup with 12.2 second remaining, pulling the Bobcats within 101-100.

Salmons was fouled almost immediately after the inbounds, but he made only one of his free throws for a 102-100 Milwaukee lead. That set up another Wallace drive to the lane.

After Wallace was fouled hard and helped off the court, the Bucks smartly selected Brown -- a 25 percent free-throw shooter this season -- to attempt his shots.

The strategy paid off, and Milwaukee hung on for its first victory since November 13.

"Even though we were shorthanded, I felt like we all just came together," said Jennings. "The people who were active, we just said let's try to get this win tonight."

The Bobcats said Wallace hyper-extended his elbow, but x-rays were negative.

The Bucks jumped out to a 29-16 lead after the first quarter behind 10 early points from Salmons. They held their largest advantage of the game at 15 points during the frame when two Ilyasova free throws made it 29-14 near the end.

Jennings led all scorers with 18 points in the first half and Milwaukee carried a 60-53 lead into the locker room behind 68 percent shooting. The Bucks led 82-72 heading into the fourth.

Starting Charlotte guard Stephen Jackson was ejected in the first quarter after picking up two technical fouls for arguing...Charlotte is only 1-12 as the visitor in this series.
