Pacers beat Lakers for first-ever win at Staples Center

Nov 29, 2010 - 5:40 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Roy Hibbert was a strong presence in the middle with 24 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Indiana Pacers to their first-ever win at Staples Center with a 95-92 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hibbert added six assists and made nine of his 13 shots for the Pacers, who snapped an 11-game road losing streak to the Lakers with their first such win since February 14, 1999.

Danny Granger added 18 points, while Darren Collison and Brandon Rush scored 14 and 11, respectively, in the win, Indiana's third in its last four games.

"This is a big win for us to come into LA and beat the world champs," Granger said. "We didn't shoot lights out. It was all about our defense."

Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 41 points, but missed a pair of potential game- tying three-point attempts in the final moments for the Lakers, who have lost two straight after a five-game win streak.

Pau Gasol added 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Lamar Odom had 15 points and 11 boards in defeat.

"We played a lethargic game," said Lakers head coach Phil Jackson. "They out-hustled us and got the win. Our offense was a little stagnant. We couldn't get the ball into Pau. Our guys just didn't move the ball. You just have to give their defense credit."

The Lakers grabbed a 26-23 lead after the first quarter, but the Pacers made their move in the second.

Indiana opened the second quarter with a 7-2 run over the first 4:40 and Mike Dunleavy's 18-foot jump shot provided a 30-28 advantage.

After Matt Barnes put Los Angeles back in front with a three-point play, Hibbert's basket and T.J. Ford's three-pointer put Indiana ahead, 35-31.

The Lakers fought back to take a 40-39 lead on an Odom basket with 3 1/2 minutes left, but the Pacers ended the half on a 12-5 run and took a 51-45 cushion to the locker room following Collison's basket in the closing moments.

Indiana kept the pressure on in the third, scoring the first eight points to grab a 14-point lead on Rush's layup three minutes in. The margin reached as high as 15 before the Lakers whittled their deficit to 77-69 entering the fourth.

Los Angeles kept pushing in the fourth, eventually closing to within one at 93-92 on a pair of Gasol free throws with 34.1 seconds left.

The Pacers ran a play for Hibbert to push the gap back to three, and he caught the ball down low and slammed it through the hoop for a 95-92 contest with 16.4 seconds remaining.

Bryant dribbled up the court and attempted a three-pointer that hit off the back of the rim; Ron Artest grabbed the rebound and fed Odom, who dished back to Bryant. Bryant took a deep three-pointer that didn't reach the basket, and Hibbert grabbed his final rebound with 1.1 seconds left to seal the win.
