Stoudemire scores 35 as Knicks down Nets

Dec 1, 2010 - 7:43 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire poured in 35 points and nine rebounds, leading the New York Knicks to a 111-100 victory over the New Jersey Nets at Madison Square Garden.

Stoudemire became the first Knick to score 35 or more in consecutive games since Stephon Marbury did it in March, 2007, as the Knicks moved above .500 (10-9) for the first time since they were 3-2.

Wilson Chandler tied a season-high with 27 points and pulled down 11 boards, while Raymond Felton contributed 21 points and 10 assists for New York, winners in seven of its last eight.

"Any kind of step forward, we'll take," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said. "We're 10-9. That's reality. We are playing better and we all know we could be better."

Brook Lopez scored a season-high 36 points for the Nets, who have lost six straight on the road. Jordan Farmar added 17 points, while Travis Outlaw had 13 in defeat.

New Jersey lost guard Devin Harris to a left knee injury. He will have an MRI on Wednesday.

"Big game changer," Nets head coach Avery Johnson said. "Devin is a guy that we rely on heavily. In a sense, it's kind of like if they lose Stoudemire. On a lot of nights, Devin has been one of our top two players. It was tough to overcome it."

New York trailed by nine with a minute to go in the first half, but scored the final six points to cut its deficit to 58-55 at halftime.

The Knicks came out rolling in the third quarter, outscoring New Jersey by a 33-15 margin.

Chandler and Stoudemire quickly gave New York the lead with back-to-back baskets to open the second half, and a 14-2 run later put the Knicks ahead for good.

Felton scored six points on the run, while Stoudemire and Chandler each had four to provide a 77-67 margin with 3:15 left.

The Knicks took an 88-73 lead to the fourth and led by at least eight for the duration of the final 12 minutes. Farmar hit a technical free throw and a subsequent three-pointer for a 95-87 margin, but Chandler answered with an easy layup, and Stoudemire's two free throws put the Knicks back up by 12 with 5 1/2 minutes left.

New York held a 30-28 edge after the first quarter, though New Jersey surged in front in the second, leading by as many as nine.

These teams split the season series in each of the past two seasons...The Knicks shot 51.3 percent overall...Despite the 10-9 record, New York is just 3-5 at home...The Nets have lost six of eight overall.
