DeRozan, Raptors keep Wizards winless on the road
Dec 2, 2010 - 3:46 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - DeMar DeRozan scored 20 points, as the Toronto Raptors extended Washington's road woes with a 127-108 rout at Air Canada Centre.Andrea Bargnani and Sonny Weems both scored 18 for the Raptors, who stopped a two-game skid.
"In the last game we weren't moving the ball," said recently-acquired Toronto guard Jerryd Bayless, who had 16 points and five assists. "Tonight everyone was able to get touches and we were able to get good looks as a team."
Leandro Barbosa also added 16 points off the bench for Toronto.
JaVale McGee led the Wizards with a game-high 21 points and John Wall, who missed the last two games with a bruised knee, added 19 points and eight assists in a reserve role for Washington, which topped the Raptors 109-94 on November 16.
Washington is now 0-9 on the road this season, the worst start in franchise history.
"It's just embarrassing," said Wizards head coach Flip Saunders. "I know they will play a lot of games on the road but to play like that is embarrassing ... complete lack of effort ... being out rebounded by 20 in unacceptable."
Andray Blatche scored 17 and Kirk Hinrich added 15 points in defeat.
The Raptors shot 15-of-24 from the field in the first quarter en route to an early 34-25 lead after the opening 12 minutes.
Toronto started the second on a 13-4 run, and later expanded its lead to 21, 63-42, with a Jose Calderon jumper at 3:14. Bargnani had 11 points in the quarter as the Raptors took a 72-52 lead into the locker room.
The teams went back-and-forth for most of the third and the Raptors were able to stretch their lead to as many as 26 in the closing minutes of the quarter. Washington's Gilbert Arenas, who entered the third 0-6 from the field, finally connected on a mid-range jump-shot at 3:53 to account for his only basket of the night.
Toronto eclipsed the 100-point mark with Bayless' driving layup at the 1:00 mark to put the game at 101-77. The Wizards added four from the line -- two from McGee, two from Wall -- to put the margin at 101-81 heading into the final stanza.
A Linas Kleiza hook shot gave the Raptors a 27-point lead, 120-93, inside five minutes, and the Wizards connected on their first three-pointer of the night at 4:27 to trim the lead to 24.
The Toronto lead remained above 20 until Cartier Martin's three-pointer with 10.0 seconds left accounted for the final margin.
