Nash has 17 assists, Suns down Wizards
Dec 6, 2010 - 8:20 AM Phoenix, AZ (Sports Network) - Steve Nash recorded a season-high 17 assists while netting 20 points in Phoenix's 125-108 win over Washington at US Airways Center.Nash was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field for the Suns, who won their third straight game. Hakim Warrick came off the bench to tally a season-high 26 points and six rebounds, while Jason Richardson netted 21 points.
"You play with that guy, he'll find you," Warrick said of Nash. "If you run to the basket and be aggressive he'll find you. I think the shooters did a good job tonight when he found them."
Andray Blatche had 24 points for the Wizards, who are still searching for their first road win of the season after 10 tries. Nick Young chipped in 20 points and Gilbert Arenas had 14 points in defeat.
The game was tight in the first half, with Phoenix holding a 64-61 lead at the break.
The Suns then went on an 11-6 run to start the third quarter which was finished by Channing Frye's three-pointer with 5:28 left to play in the frame. They took a 95-77 lead on Richardson's free throws 4 1/2 minutes later.
"We just came out sluggish in the second half," Arenas said. "From there we were going up hill. These are one of those teams you can't let the lead get away from you."
Phoenix carried a 95-78 lead into the fourth, and Jared Dudley's trey 2 1/2 minutes into the frame gave the Suns a 21-point lead -- their biggest of the game. The Wizards were never able to dip under a double-digit deficit during the remainder of the game.
During the first quarter, the Wizards had a 10 point lead, 26-16, after Yi Jianlian hit a three-pointer. The bucket capped a 14-3 run, however, Nash found Warrick for a dunk and then Richardson's trey made it a 31-27 game. With five ticks remaining in the quarter, Warrick netted a free throw for a three- point deficit heading into the second stanza.
The Suns fought back to take a one-point lead 6 1/2 minutes into the second quarter on a Josh Childress layup. On the ensuing trip, JaVale McGee drilled a short jumper to regain the lead for the Wizards and the two teams tied twice during the last five minutes of the half.
Warrick's slam dunk dished out by Nash gave Phoenix a five-point lead with five seconds left until the intermission, but John Wall banked in a long two- point shot as time ran out to make it a three-point game at the break in favor of the home team.
