Jazz resume homestand vs. Grizzlies

Dec 6, 2010 - 3:42 PM (Sports Network) - The Utah Jazz hope to bounce back from their first loss in nearly two weeks when they resume a lengthy six-game homestand by hosting the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Jazz fell to 2-1 on the residency Friday, dropping a 93-81 affair to fellow Western Conference heavyweight Dallas when Dirk Nowitzki made 12-of-18 shots from the floor en route to 26 points, as the Mavericks used a big second half to take down Utah.

Paul Millsap had 21 points and seven rebounds to pace the Jazz, who saw a seven-game winning streak come to an end. Al Jefferson tallied 18 points and eight boards for Utah, which got 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds from Deron Williams.

"(Dallas) came out and beat us in the second half," Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan said. "They really pushed the ball up the floor and we had a tough time getting back on defense and try and cover."

Utah, which is 8-4 as the host on the year, will finish their residency with games against Miami and Orlando.

The Grizzlies, meanwhile, dropped the opener of a four-game road trip in Denver on Sunday when Chauncey Billups made two key free throws in the final seconds, and the Nuggets held on for a 108-107 victory over Memphis.

Rudy Gay had 24 points to lead five Grizzlies starters who scored in double- figures, but the Grizzlies lost their third straight overall. Mike Conley finished with 19 points and nine assists, while Zach Randolph had 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Memphis, which is just 2-8 on the road, will finish its trip with visits to Phoenix and the LA Clippers.

The Grizzlies snapped an 11-game skid to the Jazz with a 91-89 triumph in Memphis last January. The Grizz have lost six straight in Salt Lake City, however and the Jazz are 23-6 all-time at home versus Memphis.
