Hawks host Nets at Philips Arena

Dec 7, 2010 - 4:02 PM (Sports Network) - Fresh off an impressive road win against Southeast Division rival Orlando, the Atlanta Hawks hope to avoid a letdown when they entertain the lowly New Jersey Nets tonight at Philips Arena.

Josh Smith posted 19 points and 13 rebounds and Al Horford chipped in 16 and 10 to lead the Hawks over the Magic, 80-74, at Amway Center on Monday.

Jamal Crawford and Mike Bibby netted 15 and 13 points, respectively, for Atlanta, which was coming off an 89-77 loss to Miami on Saturday.

The Hawks again had trouble scoring but held Orlando to 37.8 percent shooting to pull out the win, their sixth in seven games.

The Magic were without four of their regulars the previous two games due to a stomach virus. They got three back Monday, including Dwight Howard, whose 14 points and 13 rebounds weren't enough.

"We were able to control the tempo from start to finish," Crawford said. "I can only remember their fans getting into the game one time."

Atlanta is now 3-1 since losing All-Star guard Joe Johnson, who is expected to be sidelined at least three more weeks after undergoing arthroscopic elbow surgery last Thursday.

The Nets, which will begin a brief two-game road trip tonight, dropped their fourth straight encounter on Sunday, a 100-75 setback at the hands of Boston at the Prudential Center. Nate Robinson, starting in place of the injured Rajon Rondo, scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and handed out six assists in the rout.

Jordan Farmar scored 16 points, while Derrick Favors and Anthony Morrow added 10 apiece for the Nets, who have lost six of their last seven games.

"Obviously, we had a tough night," Morrow said. "Any time you are playing at their pace, you are playing into their hands. We'll watch film and clean up our defensive mistakes and our offensive mistakes."

New Jersey, which is just 2-9 as the visitor on the year, has lost three straight in Atlanta but did beat the Hawks in the Garden State back on Nov. 23, a 107-101 overtime triumph.
