Red-hot Knicks arrive in nation's capital to take on Wizards

Dec 10, 2010 - 4:12 PM (Sports Network) - The New York Knicks have been on fire as of late and will try to keep the embers burning tonight, when they make a stop in the nation's capital to take on the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.

New York has won six in a row and 11 of 12 games, including seven straight away from Madison Square Garden. In Wednesday's 113-110 home win versus the Toronto Raptors, Amare Stoudemire ended with 34 points and 14 rebounds and has now tallied 30 or more points in six straight games. The star forward needs one more 30-point effort and he will match the team record of seven straight games of that nature set by Willie Naulls from February 22 - March 4, 1962.

"Any time you can win the way we have been and play with this type of swagger and enjoy all the camaraderie, it's so much fun," Stoudemire said. "We just want to keep that feeling going."

Stoudemire is averaging 29.9 points and 10.2 rebounds in his last 12 games for the Knicks, who got the game-winning shot from Raymond Felton with 2.7 seconds remaining. Felton finished with 28 points and 11 assists for the Knicks, who got 20 points and nine boards from Danilo Gallinari.

The Knicks are 9-4 away from the Garden this season and will return home for three games versus Denver, Boston and Miami after tonight's contest.

Washington fell to 0-12 on the road this season with Wednesday's 116-91 setback in Sacramento, as Al Thornton contributed 20 points and Gilbert Arenas ended with 19. Kirk Hinrich had 18 points in defeat.

"It's frustrating that we are two different teams - a great team at home and a terrible team on the road," Arenas said on NBA.com. "We just have to find a happy medium."

Wizards rookie John Wall is still bothered by a sore foot and did not play against the Kings. Wall and forward Andray Blatche (hip) are both questionable for Friday's game. Blatche has missed two straight games.

Washington owns a 6-3 record in DC this season.
