Suns face Blazers again in desert
Dec 10, 2010 - 4:15 PM (Sports Network) - Phoenix and Portland will do battle for the second time this week as the Suns entertain the Trail Blazers in the desert tonight.Phoenix fell to Portland in the Rose City on Tuesday when Wesley Matthews scored 24 points, as the Blazers used a late run to earn the 106-99 victory.
Most recently the Suns suffered another loss, opening a three-game homestand by falling to Memphis in overtime on Wednesday. Rudy Gay hit a buzzer-beating three in regulation, while Zach Randolph scored four of his 34 points in the extra frame as the Grizzlies snapped a four-game losing streak with a 104-98 win.
Gay hit a three-pointer from the left corner as time ran out, tying the game at 92, and Memphis outscored the Suns 12-6 in overtime to win for the first time this month.
Goran Dragic scored 17 points to lead Phoenix and fellow bench player Hedo Turkoglu added 15, including a three-pointer with 6.2 seconds left in regulation that gave Phoenix a 91-88 lead.
The Suns lost their second in a row on the heels of a three-game winning streak, opening a three-game homestand with a dreadful performance from their starters.
Steve Nash, Jason Richardson, Earl Barron, Channing Frye and Grant Hill were just 14-of-43 from the field for 40 points -- Nash and Richardson average about that by themselves -- and Phoenix trailed by as many as 15 points.
Portland, meanwhile, followed up its win over Phoenix by trouncing Orlando, 97-83, for its third consecutive win on Thursday. Andre Miller, returning from a suspension that stopped his impressive consecutive games streak at 632, scored 22 points lead the Trail Blazers in that one.
Matthews scored 20 points and Nicolas Batum added 15 and 10 rebounds for the Blazers, who are opening up a four-game road trip tonight. Brandon Roy added nine points and Marcus Camby grabbed 13 rebounds with six points in the victory.
Portland, which has dropped four straight on the road, will also face San Antonio, Memphis and Dallas on its trek.
The Suns have dominated the Blazers recently at US Airways Center, taking 18 of the last 22 meetings.
