Grizzlies make a stop at the Clippers

Dec 11, 2010 - 4:10 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies will wrap up a four-game road trip this afternoon against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center.

Memphis ended a four-game losing streak with a 104-98 overtime victory in Phoenix on Wednesday, as Rudy Gay kept the Grizzlies alive with a buzzer- beating three-pointer in regulation and finished with 22 points.

Zach Randolph scored a season-high 34 points and hit a big jumper with 8.7 seconds to go in overtime. Randolph also grabbed 17 rebounds and Mike Conley contributed 11 points and a career-best 14 assists for Memphis, which shot 49.4 percent from the floor and improved to 3-9 as the guest.

Conley is averaging 19.7 points and 8.0 assists on .584 shooting in 38.8 minutes in the last six games.

"That was a hard-fought, much-needed win," Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins said the Grizz ended a six-game road losing streak.

The Suns and Grizzlies each had 47 rebounds. Memphis has been playing tough defense lately and leads the league in forced turnovers (16.8), while ranking third in steals (8.78) and points off turnovers (19.1).

Meanwhile, the Clippers will continue a four-game homestand tonight and fell to 1-1 on the residency with Wednesday's 87-86 loss to the local rival Lakers. Lakers veteran guard Derek Fisher made a driving layup as time expired to sink the Clips, who got 24 points and five rebounds from Eric Gordon.

Rookie Blake Griffin had 16 points and 11 boards, while Eric Bledsoe chipped in 11 points and seven assists for the Clippers, who have dropped five of seven games overall and are 5-8 as the host this season. LA committed 19 turnovers in defeat. Bledsoe is averaging 13.0 points and 5.0 assists while shooting 44.4 percent in his last two games.

"A tough one to swallow," Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro said. "The turnovers in the fourth quarter hurt us. Fisher made a big shot at the end. We have to play smarter."

Del Negro's squad is 0-3 this season in games decided by three or fewer points and 0-4 in games decided by six points or less. Los Angeles will close out the homestand versus Orlando on Sunday.

Clippers forward Brian Cook finished serving his two-game NBA suspension and will be eligible to play versus Memphis. Cook was penalized two games without pay for his Flagrant Foul, Penalty Two against Joel Przybilla of Portland on Dec. 5. LA guard Randy Foye (hamstring) is questionable and center Chris Kaman (ankle) is doubtful for Saturday. Kaman has missed 13 games this season.

Memphis and Los Angeles split four meetings a season ago, but the Clippers are 10-8 in the past 18 games in this series. The Grizzlies have lost two straight and seven of their last nine at the Clippers.
