Mavs vie to rebound in matchup with Portland

Dec 15, 2010 - 4:04 PM (Sports Network) - The Dallas Mavericks hope to bounce back from their first loss in over three weeks tonight when they entertain the Portland Trail Blazers in north Texas.

The Mavs fell to 3-1 on a six-game homestand on Monday when Brandon Jennings filled the box score with 23 points, 10 assists and five rebounds, as the Milwaukee Bucks erased a huge deficit and ended Dallas' win streak at 12 with a 103-99 decision at American Airlines Center.

Dirk Nowitzki had a game-high 30 points but missed a potential game-tying bucket late in regulation for the Mavs, whose last loss came at home against Chicago on November 17.

"They kicked our [butts]. I don't know any simpler way to say it," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said. "Credit Milwaukee -- they took the game away from us. I'm not going to say we gave it away or anything like that; they took it."

The Blazers, meanwhile, fell to 1-2 on a four-game road trip in Memphis on Monday when Zach Randolph led all scorers with 25 points and grabbed 20 rebounds, as the Grizzlies rolled to an 86-73 victory over Portland.

Wesley Matthews ended with a team-best 18 points and Andre Miller went for 14 points, nine assists and six rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who were coming off a 95-78 loss at San Antonio on Sunday and have dropped two in a row after a four-game winning streak. LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 13 points and six rebounds in defeat.

All-Star swingman Brandon Roy, playing with a balky left knee, was a miserable 3-of-16 from the floor as Portland fell to 2-9 in its last 11 games away from the Rose Garden.

"This season's been up and down," Miller said. "We're not playing good basketball."

The Blazers won both of their trips to Big D last season after dropping their previous 11 games in north Texas.
