Cavs snap skid with OT win over Knicks

Dec 19, 2010 - 6:06 AM Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Mo Williams extended the game with a running jump shot with 3.7 seconds left in regulation, then scored six in overtime to help the Cleveland Cavaliers snap their lengthy losing streak with a 109-102 victory over the New York Knicks.

Williams scored 23 points with a season-high 14 assists for the Cavaliers, who snapped a 10-game slide, the team's worst since LeBron James was a season away from his NBA debut with the franchise. Antawn Jamison added 21 points, while Anthony Parker supplied 17 points in the victory.

"The last three or four games, the effort's there," Williams said. "We're right there. You want to see a win to believe it. We keep saying we turned the corner, and I think it showed tonight."

Anderson Varejao provided a presence down low, scoring 14 points and grabbing a season-high 17 rebounds for Cleveland, which has won nine straight over New York.

Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton both scored 23 for the Knicks, who have lost three straight since an eight-game win streak. Stoudemire added 11 rebounds to his ledger, while Felton dished out 11 assists in the loss.

"We didn't come up with the stops we had to have," said Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni. "We'd go up six or seven, and it seemed like we'd get a little complacent. We'd go back to zero, get it back up. We never had the heart to put it away."

New York held a four-point lead after Felton's jumper with 52.9 seconds left, but Jamison responded with a driving layup to keep Cleveland within two, 93-91.

Danilo Gallinari missed a likely opportunity to seal the game, as his deep three-pointer was off the mark, and Williams' running shot with 3.7 seconds left fell to tie the game.

Stoudemire had a final chance to win it for New York, but his fadeaway jumper from 10 feet away hit the rim and bounced away.

Varejao hit a pair of layups early in the overtime period to put Cleveland ahead by two, and Williams followed with an 18-foot jumper for a four-point game with 3:13 left.

Jamison contributed four points during a 6-0 Cavs burst, which ended on Williams' turnaround jumper for a 105-97 lead with 29.6 seconds to play.

New York held a 27-21 lead after one quarter, but had their advantage trimmed to 52-49 at halftime.

The Cavs managed to tie the game, 74-74, heading to the fourth, and neither team led by more than four in the final quarter.

The last Knicks win in this series came on December 19, 2007...The Cavs outrebounded New York, 56-47. The 56 rebounds are a season-best for Cleveland...The game featured nine lead changes and eight ties. Neither team led by more than nine throughout.
