Sizzling Spurs welcome Suns to Alamo City

Dec 20, 2010 - 3:53 PM (Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs will try to extend their winning streak to nine games when they resume a three-game homestand tonight versus the new-look Phoenix Suns at the AT&T Center.

San Antonio has prevailed in its last eight games and opened the residency with Saturday's 112-106 OT victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Tony Parker finished with a season-high 37 points and nine assists, while Manu Ginobili ended with 15 points and nine assists for the Spurs, who are an NBA-best 23-3 on the season and 14-2 in the Alamo City.

"We're excited about the overtime win, and I thought we did a great job of hanging in there and continuing to play on a night when mentally, I thought we were very subpar," said Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich.

Tim Duncan had 13 points and 10 rebounds, as San Antonio posted its seventh straight win at home and will also host Denver at the AT&T Center. Spurs guard George Hill will miss tonight's game with a sprained toe.

Phoenix will close out a three-game road trip Monday and may not have newcomers Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat in the lineup tonight since they're expected to take physicals this afternoon. All three were acquired in the recent blockbuster deal with Orlando and could debut Thursday at home versus Miami.

The Suns are coming off Sunday's 113-110 triumph at Oklahoma City, as Grant Hill poured in a game-best 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Steve Nash bounced back from a neck stinger in a loss at Dallas two nights before and posted 20 points and 10 assists for Phoenix, which won for the second time in six tries and improved to 1-1 on the road swing. Phoenix is 6-8 outside of the desert this season and was able to hold off a late Thunder charge.

"They were going to make a run," said Suns coach Alvin Gentry. "I didn't quite want it to be a 40-point quarter. But you knew that they were going to make some shots."

Robin Lopez had 19 points in a winning effort.

San Antonio defeated the Suns, 112-110, back on Nov. 3 this season at US Airways Center and has won five of the past seven meetings between the teams. Phoenix is 4-14 in its last 18 trips to the Alamo City.
