Road-weary Wizards make a stop in San Antonio

Dec 26, 2010 - 4:06 PM (Sports Network) - The chances of the Washington Wizards recording their first road win of the season tonight look bleak, as they are set to take on the San Antonio Spurs from the Alamo City.

Washington is 0-13 away from the nation's capital this season and will also make a stop in Houston on its two-game trek through Texas. The Wizards, the only team in the NBA without a road victory, have lost eight of nine games overall, including Wednesday's 87-80 loss versus the Chicago Bulls at home.

Nick Young scored 22 points and Kirk Hinrich provided 19 and nine assists for Washington, which got eight points from newcomer Rashard Lewis. Lewis was recently acquired in a deal from Orlando for Gilbert Arenas.

"Good thing we've got a couple days off, we don't play until the 26th," said Lewis, who went 0-for-5 from three-point range. "So I can kind of look over the plays and learn everything for the next couple days."

The Wizards were without rookie guard John Wall, who missed a fifth consecutive game with a balky knee. Wall is out indefinitely, while Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee will miss Sunday's game due to one-game suspensions for conduct detrimental to the team. The two were allegedly involved in an altercation outside of a local night club early Friday morning, according to the Washington Post.

Blatche is averaging a team-high 16.8 points and 7.7 rebounds. McGee leads the Wizards with 8.3 boards per game. Young is averaging 22.2 points per contest over his last six games and has scored 20 or more points five straight times. Hinrich is averaging 16.7 points, 10.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds in his last three games.

Washington's last road win was at Boston on April 9, 2010.

Meanwhile, the Spurs hope to get back into the win column when they begin a quick homestand tonight versus the Wizards and Lakers. They are unbeaten in their last nine home games and 16-2 at the AT&T Center this season.

San Antonio, owners of the NBA's best record at 25-4, had a 10-game winning streak stopped with Thursday's 123-101 loss at Orlando. Tony Parker and Gary Neal both scored 16 points, while Tim Duncan added 12 points for the Spurs, who tasted defeat for the first time since December 1 at the Clippers.

"It's bound to happen," Duncan said of the setback. "We had a good stretch there and had a good amount of wins going. We came in here against a team that was revamped and had a lot of energy."

Richard Jefferson, DeJuan Blair, Manu Ginobili and Matt Bonner each finished with 10 points in defeat. San Antonio has allowed 100 or more points in five consecutive games and its last home loss was versus Dallas on Nov. 26.

San Antonio swept a home-and-home series with Washington a year ago and has won nine straight and 18 of the past 21 meetings between the teams. The Wizards are winless in their previous 10 trips to the Alamo City.
