Wizards try for first road win at Houston

Dec 27, 2010 - 4:10 PM (Sports Network) - The NBA's only remaining winless team on the road finishes a tough two-day tour of south Texas Monday when the woeful Washington Wizards take on the resurgent Houston Rockets.

The Wizards fell to a miserable 0-14 as the visitor on Sunday in San Antonio when Tony Parker had a stellar all-around game, finishing with 20 points, 14 assists and six rebounds, as the Spurs dropped a road-weary Washington club, 94-80, at AT&T Center.

The Wizards, who were playing without forwards Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee, were paced by Rashard Lewis' 21 points and 12 rebounds. Blatche and McGee were both suspended for actions detrimental to the team and are expected to be available tonight.

Rookie guard John Wall returned from a five-game absence (knee) and posted four points on 2-of-9 shooting with four assists and six rebounds in a little over 19 minutes.

"They're the best team in the league for one," Wall said of the Spurs. "They do a great job of penetrating and finding shooters in the baseline as they shot the ball well today. Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and everybody on their team came out making shots as it was tough trying to defend them."

The Rockets, who are opening up a three-game homestand tonight, just finished a perfect three-game road swing last Wednesday when Kevin Martin ended with 28 points, as Houston slipped past the Los Angeles Clippers, 97-92, at Staples Center.

Luis Scola added 22 points for the Rockets, who have won a season-high four in a row overall and are a solid 11-5 since a disappointing 3-10 start to the season. Shane Battier provided 13 points, 10 boards and seven assists in the victory.

Clippers rookie forward Blake Griffin posted his 17th consecutive double- double with 24 points and 18 rebounds. However, he missed a potential game- tying three in the closing seconds, as Los Angeles had a three-game win streak broken.

"Tough game, a good win for us," said Houston head coach Rick Adelman. "They made it interesting at the end, but we held on to get the win."

Houston, which is 8-4 at home on the season, will also face Miami and Toronto on its residency.

Wall recorded his first career triple-double with 19 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds in a 98-91 win over the Rockets in the nation's capital back on Nov. 10. Houston has won nine of 11 and 12 of the past 15 games in this series.
