Randolph helps Grizzlies down Raptors
Dec 28, 2010 - 6:19 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph led a balanced attack with 21 points and the Memphis Grizzlies topped the Toronto Raptors, 96-85, at FedEx Forum.Rudy Gay finished off his night with 18 points, six assists, five steals and five rebounds and both Mike Conley and O.J. Mayo contributed 12 points for Memphis, which has won two straight since a three-game skid.
Tony Allen finished with 14 points and eight rebounds and Randolph added eight boards in the win.
"We have to keep focused after a high," Mayo said. "We get a little relaxed when we win a couple of games in a row."
Linas Kleiza led the Raptors with a game-high 22 points, DeMar DeRozan scored 18 and Joey Dorsey notched a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds for Toronto, which has dropped three straight and five of its last six.
A Kleiza three at the four minute mark in the third cut the Memphis lead down to 69-63, but a Allen jumper on the opposite end started a 9-0 for the Grizzlies to end the quarter.
After Allen's jumper Toronto missed two shots from the beyond the arc, and Conley continued the run with a driving layup with just over two minutes remaining.
Mayo added two free throws with 1 1/2 remaining, and added a mid ranger jumper with 21.2 seconds left to give the Grizzlies a 77-63 lead heading into the fourth.
Toronto's Leandro Barbosa connected on a layup with 3:36 remaining to put the Grizzlies advantage at 88-79, but after a defensive three seconds was called on Toronto, Gay hit the free throws to start a short 7-0 to put the game away for good.
Mayo hit a three just over the three minute mark to extend the lead to 92-79, and after Barbosa missed a jumper, Randolph hit a running jumper and connected on the three-point conversion to put the Grizzlies up 16, 95-79, their largest of the game.
Memphis' lead never fell below 11 down the stretch.
Kleiza led the way with 10 points as the Raptors took an early 24-16 lead after the first, but Memphis capitalized on 10 second quarter Toronto turnovers to take a 48-44 lead at the half.
"(Memphis) is a team that forces a lot of turnovers, but there were a lot of unforced ones that are on us," Raptors coach Jay Triano said.
Game Notes
Marc Gasol finished with nine points and two blocks for the victors...Both teams scored 52 points in the paint...Barbosa scored 11 in a reserve role and Jose Calderon notched 13 points and nine assists in defeat.
