Celtics and Raptors wrap up season series in Beantown

Jan 7, 2011 - 4:18 PM (Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics will wrap up their season series with the Atlantic Division-rival Toronto Raptors Friday night from TD Garden.

Boston has won two of the first three meetings in the series, including a 93-79 triumph in the last encounter on Jan. 2 at Air Canada Centre. The Celtics have won 10 of 11 and 14 of the past 16 matchups with the Raptors, who have dropped five in a row and 15 of the previous 18 games in Beantown.

The Celtics have ripped off three straight wins overall after losing three of four games and pulled off a 105-103 triumph over the mighty San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday from the Garden. Rajon Rondo posted the sixth triple-double of his career with 12 points, 22 assists, 10 rebounds and an additional six steals, while Ray Allen led the way with 31 points and Glen Davis added 23.

On the game's final possession, Spurs guard Manu Ginobili controlled the ball at the top of the perimeter and was double-teamed. Marquis Daniels bit on Ginobili's first pump fake, but Paul Pierce was there to block his deep two- point try to seal the win.

"We didn't want to give up a three, that was the only thing that could beat us, [so] we sort of overplayed on the three-point line," said Pierce, who had 18 points. "You got two heavyweights battling and it was fun for me to be part of. I'm just glad that we won."

Boston will close out a three-game homestand tonight and is 15-2 in its friendly confines this season. Following a visit to Chicago, the Celtics will return home for a six-game residency versus the Rockets, Kings, Bobcats, Magic, Pistons and Jazz.

Toronto will close out a three-game road trip Friday and ended a three-game losing streak with Wednesday's 120-105 victory in Cleveland.

Jose Calderon had 20 points and a season-best 17 assists for the Raptors, who are 5-13 as the guest in 2010-11 and won for just the second time in eight tries. Andrea Bargnani added 25 points and eight rebounds, as the Raptors ended an 11-game losing streak in Cleveland.

"Today, everybody did something very important," Bargnani said. "Everybody did something huge in the game. It was a game that we really needed."

Leandro Barbosa tallied 22 points off the bench in a winning effort. Toronto guard Jerryd Bayless (ankle) is listed as questionable for tonight.
