Warriors make a stop at the Clippers

Jan 9, 2011 - 4:03 PM (Sports Network) - Monta Ellis and the Golden State Warriors will pay a visit to the Los Angeles Clippers this afternoon at Staples Center.

The Warriors have won two straight since a two-game slide and six of nine overall, including Friday's 116-98 victory versus the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers in Oakland. Ellis had 32 points and 10 assists, and has scored 30 or more points in four of the past 10 games. Ellis is one of only five NBA players currently averaging at least 20.0 points and 5.0 assists, joining Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams.

David Lee had 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Dorell Wright added 20 points and six boards for Golden State, which got 15 points from Stephen Curry. Warriors center Andris Biedrins returned to the floor after missing nine straight games because of a sprained ankle, and scored two points with eight boards and three blocks in less than 20 minutes of action.

"They made it close and made their runs, but we were able to finish it," said Ellis. "We didn't play to our ability the whole game, but we were able to make the shots and stops we needed to win."

Golden State, which is 6-15 away from home this season, will return to Oracle Arena for a five-game homestand versus the Lakers, Clippers, Nets, Pacers and Kings following today's contest. On the injury front, Curry is questionable with a balky hip. Curry and Ellis are averaging a combined 44.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 11.5 assists and 4.31 steals this season.

Wright is averaging 21.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.00 steals over his previous nine contests.

Meanwhile, the Clippers will resume a five-game homestand Sunday and is 1-2 so far on the residency thanks to Wednesday's 106-93 victory over the Denver Nuggets in the City of Angels.

Eric Gordon finished with 28 points and Blake Griffin tied a franchise record with his 22nd straight double-double with 22 points and 18 rebounds. Griffin tied Swen Nater for the franchise record of double-doubles. Nater achieved the feat as a member of the Buffalo Braves in 1978.

DeAndre Jordan finished with 14 points, a career-high tying 20 boards and six blocks for the Clippers, who ended a two-game slide and won for the sixth time in nine tries.

"We were determined to come out in the second half with higher intensity than they had," Jordan said.

Los Angeles improved to 8-13 at home and will also entertain Miami on the current residency.

Golden State defeated the Clippers, 109-91, back on Oct. 29 this season and has won 10 of the past 14 meetings between the two teams. The Warriors, however, have lost 10 of 14 contests at the Clippers.
