Hot-shooting Raptors get past Kings

Jan 9, 2011 - 10:43 PM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Andrea Bargnani led all scorers with 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as the Toronto Raptors held on for a 118-112 win over the Sacramento Kings at Air Canada Centre.

DeMar DeRozan went for 28 points and Leandro Barbosa posted 18 off the bench for Toronto, which recovered from a 122-102 loss at Boston on Friday and has won two of three.

Jose Calderon and Jerryd Bayless finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Raptors, who shot 58.5 percent from the floor. Calderon added nine assists.

"Offense was good. We didn't play good defense all game long," Bargnani said. "We got better in the last five minutes and that's what got us the win."

Beno Udrih had a team-best 25 points for the Kings, who have dropped 10 straight games on the road. Sacramento has split its last six overall. Carl Landry poured in 22 points in a reserve role.

Jason Thompson ended with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while DeMarcus Cousins also turned in a double-double -- 18 points and 10 boards -- in defeat.

"We got production from everybody that played and certainly shows what type of team we are trying to be," Kings head coach Paul Westphal said.

Barbosa's three broke a 96-96 tie with 6:43 left in the contest. DeRozan then made a pair of mid-range jumpers sandwiched around a Amir Johnson putback dunk to put the Raptors ahead by eight, 108-100, with 3:56 to play.

Sacramento responded with a 9-2 run and Cousins' layup with 1:06 on the clock cut the visitors' deficit to one.

However, Bargnani hit a huge three out of a time out to put Toronto up 113-109. After Francisco Garcia missed from beyond the arc, Johnson was fouled and drained both at the stripe to give the Raptors a six-point edge with 30.3 seconds left and they held on in the remaining time.

Bargnani scored 10 points in the opening quarter to help the Raptors grab a 34-31 lead after 12 minutes.

Landry scored the first five points of the second quarter to give the Kings a brief 36-34 advantage, but Bayless hit a three-pointer to start a 9-0 run by the Raptors.

Bargnani's jumper with 4:12 left before halftime had Toronto ahead 51-42 and Barbosa beat the buzzer with a driving layup to give the hosts a 57-50 edge at the intermission.

Toronto held a 64-59 advantage 2 1/2 minutes into the third before Udrih's three-ball capped a 13-4 run to put the Kings in front by a 72-68 score with 4:14 left in the quarter.

However, the Raptors scored the next five to quickly tie it and things went back-and-forth for the rest of the period. Bayless' layup in the closing seconds knotted the contest at 85-all heading into the fourth.

Kings guard Tyreke Evans missed the game with an ankle injury...Toronto improved to 8-10 at home, while Sacramento fell to 2-11 as the visitor...The Kings made 44 percent of its shots and 5-of-16 from three-point territory...Garcia finished with 13 points.
