Bryant's double-double lifts Lakers over Knicks

Jan 10, 2011 - 5:54 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Kobe Bryant scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Lakers beat the New York Knicks, 109-87, at Staples Center.

Pau Gasol had 20 points and 14 boards for the Lakers, who extended their winning streak to four games with a seventh consecutive victory over New York. Andrew Bynum posted 18 points and seven rebounds before being ejected early in the fourth quarter for arguing a foul call.

"Not a well-played game on either side," said Los Angeles head coach Phil Jackson. "We had a good game plan inside and that's what we wanted. We executed okay, not great, but okay."

Amare Stoudemire notched 23 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for the Knicks, who were aiming for a fourth straight win.

"We weren't very sharp. We never got into a rhythm," said New York head coach Mike D'Antoni.

The Lakers led 25-21 after the opening 12 minutes and they held a 52-47 advantage at the break.

Bynum made two free throws and Gasol converted a pair at the foul line to give Los Angeles a 64-52 lead midway through the third quarter. A Bynum dunk made it 74-58, but New York closed within eight before Shannon Brown nailed a three-pointer from the corner at the third-quarter buzzer to give the Lakers an 81-70 lead.

Stoudemire was fouled on a layup, and his free throw trimmed New York's deficit to 83-76. But Los Angeles scored six straight points to push its lead to 13 with 7:32 remaining in regulation.

The Lakers continued to pull away. Derek Fisher knocked down a trey and Lamar Odom made 1-of-2 free throws to increase their advantage to 99-81 with a little less than five minutes left.

Game Notes

The Lakers announced that forward Matt Barnes will have surgery Tuesday to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee...Brown ended with 16 points off the bench...Wilson Chandler had 19 points for New York, which shot 36 percent from the floor...The Lakers made 41.8 percent of their shots.
