McGrady, Pistons notch another win in Toronto

Jan 15, 2011 - 3:16 AM Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Tracy McGrady posted a season-high 22 points and added five assists to help the Detroit Pistons defeat the Toronto Raptors, 101-95, at Air Canada Centre.

Rodney Stuckey turned in 19 points while Charlie Villanueva chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds as the Pistons halted a five-game road losing streak. Detroit's last win away from the Palace also came against the Raptors, back on December 22.

Greg Monroe had 12 points and seven boards for the victors.

Andrea Bargnani collected a game-best 31 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Raptors, who dropped their second straight game and will now head on a five-game road trip. DeMar DeRozan netted 15 points and Linas Kleiza added 13 in the loss.

The opening 12 minutes saw seven ties. However, Detroit pulled away late scoring six of the quarter's final eight points, including McGrady's thunderous dunk at the one minute mark, to take a 31-26 lead after one.

The Pistons built on their margin in the second quarter with a 13-2 run, finished off by Villanueva's free throws and three-pointer, to make it a 49-35 game with seven minutes remaining. Toronto cut the edge back to single digits as Kleiza's trey with 3.9 seconds left made it a 61-54 contest entering the half.

The lead was kept at an arm's length by the visitors in the third quarter. McGrady's layup gave Detroit a 15-point advantage, 78-63, with 5:37 remaining.

Down 80-68, The Raptors went on a quick 6-0 run, Kleiza added four points in the run. However, McGrady ended the run with a three with 1.9 seconds remaining to give the Pistons a 74-83 lead entering the fourth quarter.

DeRozan's jumper at 3:20 cut the deficit to 94-87, and a Bargnani jumper at 1:18 put the game at 93-98. McGrady answered back, though, splitting defenders on his way to a reverse layup on the next trip down the court as the Pistons were able to hold on the rest of the way out.
