Blazers vie to keep win streak alive vs. Wolves
Jan 17, 2011 - 4:07 PM (Sports Network) - Northwest Division rivals clash in the Pacific Northwest Monday when the Portland Trail Blazers aim for their 15th consecutive win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Blazers, who haven't lost to the Wolves since March 25, 2007, snapped a three-game skid on Saturday when LaMarcus Aldridge scored 27 points, pulled down nine rebounds and dished out five assists, as Portland used a late surge to take down the New Jersey Nets, 96-89.
Nicolas Batum added a season-high 23 points and six boards for the Blazers, who improved to 13-5 at the Rose Garden. Andre Miller chipped in 19 points and eight assists for Portland, which got 10 points and six rebounds from Wesley Matthews.
"We knew going down the stretch that we needed some stops," Blazers forward Marcus Camby said. "The emphasis in the shoot around today was defense, especially defense in the fourth quarter when we need it the most."
The Wolves, meanwhile, lost for the sixth time in seven games on Saturday when Jason Richardson and J.J. Redick each scored 21 points to pace the Orlando Magic over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 108-99, at the Target Center.
Corey Brewer finished with a season-high 23 points and five steals for the Timberwolves, who played without star forward Michael Beasley for a second straight game due to a sprained left ankle. Luke Ridnour tallied 19 points and six assists and Darko Milicic added 13 points and six boards.
Kevin Love recorded his 27th consecutive double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds.
"This is the best I've felt all year," said Brewer. "I felt like I was starting to get better, the ball was starting to feel a lot better coming out of my hands."
Beasley remains questionable for tonight's contest.
The Blazers have won nine of 11 on their home floor and Minnesota is just 2-19 as the visitor on the year.
