Celtics continue lengthy homestand by entertaining resurgent Pistons

Jan 19, 2011 - 4:13 PM (Sports Network) - The Boston Celtics will resume a six-game homestand tonight versus the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden.

Boston has won three in a row and improved to 3-1 on the residency with a 109-106 victory over Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic on Monday. Ray Allen nailed 3-of-4 three-pointers en route to 26 points and Kevin Garnett returned from a nine-game absence to post 19 points and eight rebounds for the Celtics, who are 7-2 in the last nine games.

"I knew he'd play with energy. You could see that," said Boston head coach Doc Rivers about Garnett.

Glen Davis added 15 points off the bench in the win and helped Boston outscore the Magic, 52-26, in the paint. Rajon Rondo ended with a double-double with 10 points and 13 assists.

The Celtics will also host Utah on the homestand and are 19-3 in Beantown this season.

Detroit will try to extend its season high winning streak to four games tonight and is coming off Monday's 103-89 triumph over the Dallas Mavericks at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Rodney Stuckey had 20 points and six assists, Tayshaun Prince had 19 points and Greg Monroe posted 16 points and nine rebounds for the Pistons, who will also visit New Jersey on the short trek and own a 4-17 road record in 2010-11.

The Pistons had a season-high 34 third quarter points and made a season-best 57.5 percent of their shots.

"Not to jinx us, but we did a great job in that third quarter," said Pistons head coach John Kuester. "I was very impressed with how we came out and defended and offensively shared the ball. We were attacking getting post ups, guys finding the right man open and even that second group came in a did a great job of distributing the basketball."

Pistons veteran center Ben Wallace (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday.

Detroit and Boston have split two games so far this season -- both at The Palace -- but the Celtics are 8-3 in the past 11 meetings between the two clubs. The Pistons have won eight of their last 12 visits to Boston.
