Blazers kick off homestand vs. Griffin, Clippers

Jan 20, 2011 - 3:53 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of teams riding three-game winning streaks clash in the Rose Garden Thursday night as the Portland Trail Blazers entertain Blake Griffin and the resurgent Los Angeles Clippers.

The Blazers, who are kicking off a five-game homestand tonight, outlasted Sacramento, 94-90, in overtime on Wednesday to take their third straight.

Veteran point guard Andre Miller made the go-ahead jumper with 1:49 left in the extra frame of that one and ended with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Blazers, who have won the three in a row since a three-game skid.

Nicolas Batum added 24 points and six boards for Portland, which got 23 points and nine rebounds from LaMarcus Aldridge.

"We just got stops and guys made plays offensively," Aldridge said.

Already missing three-time All-Star Brandon Roy, who had arthroscopic surgery on both of his knees earlier this week, the Blazers played without former Clipper Marcus Camby on Wednesday. Camby is sidelined with a partially torn meniscus in his left knee and will be out for the foreseeable future.

Portland, which will also face Indiana, Sacramento, Boston and San Antonio, on its residency is a solid 14-5 as the home team this season.

The Clippers, meanwhile, won their sixth straight home game over Minnesota in Hollywood last night.

Griffin had his impressive double-double streak snapped in that one, but scored 21 of his game-high 29 points in the first half to carry LA to a 126-111 drubbing of the Timberwolves. The anticipated matchup between Griffin and Minnesota's Kevin Love was one- sided, with the rookie dominating in the opening half to give the Clips a double-digit cushion they never relinquished.

Griffin, coming off an NBA season-best 47-point effort against the Pacers on Monday, pulled down eight rebounds, ending his run of double-doubles at 27, and the backcourt combination of Eric Gordon and Baron Davis carried Los Angeles in the second half for its sixth win in seven games.

Gordon, who suffered a ligament injury to his right ring finger in the first quarter, netted 18 of his 23 points in the final 24 minutes, while Davis added 20 points in the lopsided win.

"It's very painful. It might be torn or strained. I'll tape it up tighter. I'm going to keep playing through it," said Gordon on the injury.

Ryan Gomes tallied 13 points and eight rebounds, while DeAndre Jordan logged 11 and 12 for LA, which will be shooting for a season-high fourth consecutive win tonight.

The Clips, who are just 3-12 on the road in 2010-11, have lost four straight to the Blazers, including a pair of meetings this season.
