Reeling Raptors visit the Magic Kingdom
Jan 21, 2011 - 4:04 PM (Sports Network) - The Toronto Raptors will test their luck in central Florida tonight, when they resume a five-game road trip against the Orlando Magic from Amway Center.Toronto has lost five straight overall, four in a row on the road and fell to 0-3 on the road swing following Wednesday's 104-95 setback in San Antonio. DeMar DeRozan scored 28 points and both Andrea Bargnani and Jose Calderon collected 14 points for the Raptors, who are 5-17 as the guest in 2010-11.
Jerryd Bayless and Sundiata Gaines both had 10 points off the bench, while Ed Davis grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds to go with six points for the Raptors, who will close out the trek in Miami on Saturday.
"We became one dimensional. DeMar (DeRozan) was the only one to score for us. I think they recognized that no one else could score in this game," said Raptors head coach Jay Triano afterwards.
DeRozan is averaging 18.8 ppg this month (10 games) and has scored 20 or more points in five of those. Bargnani is averaging 22.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and shooting .449 in nine games since returning from a strained left calf.
Orlando is coming off a close call against the Philadelphia 76ers and posted a 99-98 overtime triumph on Wednesday. Jason Richardson tied the game on a four- point play with 17 seconds left in regulation, then J.J. Redick converted a four-point play of his own with 1:34 to go in overtime for the Magic, who have won 11 of their last 14 games.
Redick had 12 points and Richardson netted eight, while Dwight Howard finished with 18 points and seven rebounds in Orlando's seventh straight win at home. Jameer Nelson added 16 points and Hedo Turkoglu scored 12 in a winning cause.
"The season is long and there will be time periods when we have down games, and a stretch when we go on a win streak," Redick said. "You can't pinpoint one game, but hopefully this will start another winning streak."
The Magic rebounded from a loss at Boston and will try to string consecutive wins together against a Raptors team they lost to back on Nov. 12 at Amway Center. In the 110-106 setback to Toronto, DeRozan scored 11 of his 26 points in the final quarter and Bargnani had 27 points.
Orlando has still won six of the last 10 matchups in this series.
