Suns eye sixth straight win against Detroit
Jan 22, 2011 - 4:12 PM (Sports Network) - The Phoenix Suns will try to even their record tonight, as they put a five-game winning streak on the line in the continuation of a lengthy road trip against the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The Suns improved to 3-0 on a five-game trek and extended their winning streak to a season-best five games with Friday's 109-91 victory in Washington. Channing Frye had a big night on the floor, sinking 7-of-11 three-pointers en route to 25 points, and Steve Nash posted 17 points and 14 assists for the Suns, who have won nine straight against Washington.
Marcin Gortat added 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Vince Carter tallied 12 points and 10 boards. Carter is 15 points shy of passing former Suns forward Tom Chambers for 36th on the NBA's all-time scoring list.
"We haven't played well this year, we have to win everything we can," said Nash, who leads all NBA guards with 24 double-doubles this season. "We've given a lot of games away already and had a lot of bad performances. We have to try and gain this momentum and ride it and build on it."
Phoenix will also visit Philadelphia on Monday and is 9-12 as the guest.
Meanwhile, the Pistons have dropped back-to-back games since a three-game winning streak and are coming off Friday's 89-74 loss in New Jersey.
Tayshaun Prince had 16 points and Rodney Stuckey added 14 for the Pistons, who got 10 points from Tracy McGrady in the loss. McGrady entered the game averaging 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists in his last 17 games.
"We've been playing awfully good basketball lately and tonight we just struggled with energy," said Pistons head coach John Kuester. "We couldn't get things going."
Pistons veteran guard Richard Hamilton did not play in his sixth straight game and is averaging 13.2 ppg this season. Center Ben Wallace (ankle) is questionable for tonight, while forward Charlie Villanueva left last night's game with a similar injury. He is also questionable for tonight's tilt with the Suns for a Detroit squad that owns an 11-9 mark at home.
Phoenix has won five straight over the Pistons and will be attempting to sweep the home-and-home series for a third straight season tonight. The Suns recorded a 92-75 win late last month in the desert.
