Streaking Spurs, Hornets meet in Big Easy

Jan 22, 2011 - 4:15 PM (Sports Network) - A pair of Southwest Division rivals riding lengthy winning streaks collide this evening in the Big Easy, as the San Antonio Spurs open a three-game road trip tonight against the New Orleans Hornets.

The Spurs have won eight in a row overall and 17 in a row at home, including Friday's 101-92 victory versus the New York Knicks in the finale of a four- game homestand at the AT&T Center.

Tim Duncan had a busy night with 21 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and five blocks, while Tony Parker added 21 points and 13 assists for the Spurs, who are in the midst of their longest home winning streak since a 20-game run from November 11, 1989 - February 6, 1990.

"I was just trying to be very aggressive going to the basket and try to make stuff happen for myself and my teammates," Parker said.

DeJuan Blair finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds in the win and Manu Ginobili added 16 points. The Southwest Division-leading Spurs will also visit the Warriors and Jazz on the road swing and are 13-4 away from the Alamo City.

New Orleans has won seven straight and will begin a short residency versus the Spurs and Thunder this evening. It is an impressive 17-5 at home this season.

The Hornets are coming off Friday's 100-59 blowout win of the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena, as Chris Paul finished with 16 points and eight assists to lead the way. David West finished with 15 points and eight boards for New Orleans, which got 15 points from Marco Belinelli.

"We played a great game," Belinelli said. "I think we played against one great team. They beat Boston in Boston. We were ready for that. We won the game out there on defense."

San Antonio has won two of three meetings with New Orleans this season and is 8-2 in the past 10 matchups between the teams. The Spurs are unbeaten in their last three trips to the Big Easy.
