Cavs try to snap lengthy skid in north Jersey vs. Nets

Tonight the Cavs will try to snap a season-high 16-game losing streak when they resume a three-game road trip against the New Jersey Nets at the Prudential Center.

The losing ways continued with Saturday's 92-79 setback in Chicago, as Antawn Jamison pumped in 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Cleveland, which has dropped 16 in a row for the first time since a franchise-worst 19-game losing streak to close out the 1981-82 campaign. The Cavs are also winless in their previous 20 road games and own an abysmal 3-21 ledger as the guest.

The team record for consecutive road losses is 21 set back in 2003. J.J. Hickson scored 13 points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds in a losing effort.

"We felt like we had a chance to win," Jamison said. "If we continue to play this way, things will go our way."

Cleveland will also visit Boston on the road trip and hasn't tasted victory since beating New York in overtime on Dec. 18. It is just 7-20 in conference games this season. The Cavs' last win away from Quicken Loans Arena was on Nov. 9 versus New Jersey.

The Nets will continue a five-game homestand Monday and had a two-game winning streak come to an end with Saturday's 87-86 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki buried the game-winning jumper with six seconds left and finished with 23 points and seven rebounds.

Brook Lopez had 24 points and six rebounds, while Devin Harris registered 15 points and 11 assists for New Jersey, which is 2-1 on the homestand and will also host Memphis at the Rock. The Nets are 9-11 in Newark, NJ this season.

"We were inconsistent at times with how we wanted to attack," Nets head coach Avery Johnson said after his team fell to 2-7 in the past nine games.

Cleveland and New Jersey split a home-and-home series back in November and will meet again on March 23 at Quicken Loans Arena. The Nets ended a nine-game slide in the series with a 95-87 victory back on Nov. 10 at the Q. The Cavs are still 13-5 in the past 18 matchups between the teams.

New Jersey has lost seven of nine trips to the Forest City.
