Wizards aim for first road win vs. stumbling Knicks

Jan 24, 2011 - 3:56 PM (Sports Network) - Once again the Washington Wizards will shoot for their first road win of the season, as they take on the New York Knicks tonight from Madison Square Garden.

The Wizards are a league-worst 0-20 on the road in 2010-11 and have dropped 21 straight road contests dating back to last season. The NBA mark for most road defeats to start a season belongs to the Dallas Mavericks, who lost 29 straight to open the 1992-93 campaign. Washington's last win as the guest was a 106-96 triumph in Boston back on April 9, 2010.

Washington is slated to play five of its next six games away from DC and has won three of its last five games overall. It is coming off Saturday's 85-83 win versus the Celtics, as rookie John Wall banked a three-point shot with less than a minute to go and finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Rashard Lewis had 18 points and 11 boards in the win.

"I didn't call it," Wall said of the bank shot. "I knew it was going to hit the backboard, but it thought it was going to be a hard brick. It could have broke the backboard, but luckily it went in for us."

JaVale McGee netted 16 points and Nick Young ended with just six after scoring 21 or more in his previous four outings. Young is still averaging 23.4 ppg in his last seven contests. Andray Blatche entered the game averaging 18.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals in his last four contests, but had just 11 points and five rebounds against the Celtics.

The Wizards will return to DC to host Denver before hitting the road for four games against the Thunder, Grizzlies, Mavericks and Hornets.

New York is mired in a season-high six-game slide and will begin a short residency Monday versus the Wizards and Heat. It is 10-9 at MSG this season and dropped a 101-98 decision Saturday in Oklahoma City on Kevin Durant's three-pointer at the buzzer.

Danilo Gallinari scored 23 points and Amare Stoudemire finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Knicks, who are winless in their last four road bouts and got 10 points and seven assists from Raymond Felton.

"I'd rather get beat by 15 points than get beat like that," Felton said on NBA.com. "It's always a tough loss when it's a game-winner like that."

The Knicks have dropped two in a row at home and are 10-9 in MSG this season.

New York has beaten Washington twice already this season and has won five in a row and 11 of the past 14 meetings between the clubs. The Wizards have lost six straight, eight of nine and 13 of their last 15 contests in the Big Apple.
