Reeling Raptors open homestand by taking on Grizzlies

Jan 24, 2011 - 4:00 PM (Sports Network) - The Toronto Raptors look to end a seven-game slide when they commence a three-game homestand tonight versus the Memphis Grizzlies from Air Canada Centre.

Toronto will also host Philadelphia and Milwaukee, and is 8-12 in Canada's largest city this season.

The Raptors recently dropped a 120-103 decision to the star-studded Miami Heat on Saturday in south Florida, as LeBron James scored 38 points and Mike Miller added 32. DeMar DeRozan led the Raptors with 30 points and Andrea Bargnani netted 28 for Toronto, which lost all five tests on the road trip.

"[Miller] played well and got it going a bit," Raptors coach Jay Triano said. "You get stuck trying to pitch in and help on [James], and you can't leave shooters open. You have to pick your poison. [Miller] hadn't been shooting the ball that great, but he certainly did tonight."

Amir Johnson and Jose Calderon both ended with 14 points, while Calderon handed out a game-best 13 assists. Toronto was outrebounded, 42-33, and shot a decent 47 percent from the floor. It had been held under 100 points scoring in five straight games before the Miami game.

Toronto's last win was a 118-112 victory at home versus the Sacramento Kings.

The Grizzlies, meanwhile, will resume a four-game road trip tonight up north and opened the trek with Saturday's 94-81 victory at Milwaukee behind Marc Gasol's 24 points and career-high tying 16 rebounds.

Zach Randolph had 16 points and 11 rebounds for his 10th straight double- double -- a franchise record -- and Darrell Arthur recorded 14 points off the bench for Memphis, which has won two straight and seven of its last 11 games.

"The game is played inside out. That's how the game's played, that's what coach preaches," Randolph told NBA.com. "You go inside, they collapse, kick it out, we get guys open shots. That's how we draw it up."

Randolph is closing in on his 11,000th career point, while head coach Lionel Hollins needs four more triumphs to pass Mike Fratello and become the teams all-time leader in coaching victories. Memphis is 8-16 as the guest this season and will also visit the Nets and 76ers on the current road swing.

Memphis defeated the Raptors, 96-85, back on Dec. 27 at FedEx Forum behind 21 points from Randolph and 18 points, six assists, five steals and five rebounds out of Rudy Gay. The Grizzlies have won four straight and 12 of the past 16 encounters with Toronto.

These two teams have split the last 10 meetings at Air Canada Centre.
