Stoudemire, Knicks keep Wizards winless on road
Jan 25, 2011 - 5:30 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire scored a game-best 30 points with nine rebounds and five assists, as New York broke open a close game down the stretch to close out Washington, 115-106, at Madison Square Garden."We needed this," said Stoudemire. "We have a couple of tough games coming up so tonight was a big night for us."
Wilson Chandler added 25 points and seven rebounds, while Danilo Gallinari and Raymond Felton each tallied 17 points with Felton dishing out 15 assists as the Knicks snapped a six-game losing streak.
Nick Young paced the Wizards with 22 points, while Rashard Lewis chipped in with 20. John Wall added 18 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, while JaVale McGee recorded a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds for Washington, which has lost three of four overall.
"Turnovers hurt us early, turnovers hurt us late," said Wizards head coach Flip Saunders."
The Wizards are winless in 21 road games this season.
Felton tallied 10 first-quarter points as the Knicks ran out to a 33-26 lead. The Wizards stormed back to tie the game at the half thanks to 59 percent shooting in the second period. The Wizards posted 18 of their 36 second-period points in the paint, as the teams went into the locker room in a 62-62 stalemate.
A Toney Douglas three-pointer pushed the Knicks to a late four-point lead in the third, and the home team clinged to a 93-91 advantage with 12 minutes of game action left.
A 15-6 scoring burst to begin the fourth stanza basically put the game away. A Ronny Turiaf layup and Gallinari trey capped the stretch for a 106-97 edge with just over 5 1/2 minutes to go. Washington got as close as seven at 106-99 on two Wall free throws, but the Knicks rattled off the next four points and cruised to victory from there.

The Knicks made 46.2 percent of their shots and 10 three-pointers, while Washington connected on 48.2 percent of its attempts, but made only 4-of-13 treys...Washington is 13-9 at home, but has not come out victorious on the road...New York has won six straight meetings between the two teams...New York's Al Thornton donated 10 points in the win.
