Woeful Wizards still searching for first road win in Memphis

Jan 29, 2011 - 3:44 PM (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards will again try for their first road win of the season tonight as they resume a four-game western trek against a Memphis Grizzlies team coming off a huge comeback win.

The Wizards are a league-worst 0-22 on the road in 2010-11 and have dropped 23 straight road contests dating back to last season. The NBA mark for most road defeats to start a season belongs to the Dallas Mavericks, who lost 29 straight to open the 1992-93 campaign. Washington's last win as the guest was a 106-96 triumph in Boston back on April 9, 2010. Only that Dallas team and the 1974-75 New Orleans Jazz (28) have started seasons with more consecutive road setbacks.

Washington will also visit the Mavericks and Hornets on their current trek and have lost three straight overall and five of six contests, including Friday's heartbreaking double overtime setback in Oklahoma City.

Kevin Durant scored 40 points, including 10 in the second extra frame in that one to help Oklahoma City earn a 124-117 victory and keep Washington winless away from that nation's capital.

Nick Young deposited 32 points while Rashard Lewis added 22 points and eight rebounds and Trevor Booker chipped in 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Wizards. Young, however, missed a potential game-winner at the end of the first overtime.

Center JaVale McGee missed the game due with flu-like symptoms and his status for tonight's game is unknown.

The Grizzlies, meanwhile, finished a four-game road trip at 3-1 on Friday when Zach Randolph and Rudy Gay combined for 17 points in a dominating fourth quarter, helping Memphis escape Wells Fargo Center with a 99-94 comeback win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Sixers held a seemingly comfortable 21-point lead late in the third quarter and appeared on their way to a season-high fourth consecutive win. Then they completely fell apart, committing 11 of their 22 turnovers in a final frame that saw Memphis erupt for 42 points.

The win was the Grizzlies' fourth in five games and came without the services of O.J. Mayo, who was handed 10-game suspension on Thursday for violating the league's drug policy.

Randolph ended with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Gay chipped in 16 points in the win.

"We really grinded out [this win]," said Memphis guard Mike Conley. "We showed a lot of grit and determination tonight."

The Wizards snapped a four-game skid against Memphis with a 89-86 win in the nation's capital back on Nov. 19. Washington, however, has lost five straight in the River City.
