Washington still winless on the road with loss at Memphis

Jan 30, 2011 - 6:28 AM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph extended his franchise record with his 14th straight double-double, posting 24 points and 20 rebounds, as Memphis ran past the Washington Wizards, 107-93, at FedExForum.

Darrell Arthur added a career-best 22 points for the Grizzlies, who have won two in a row and five of their last six games. Mike Conley tallied 15 points and 12 assists, who played for a second straight night without a suspended O.J. Mayo.

"We're definitely better than we were," Randolph said. "We're not satisfied at all by any means. We're missing O.J. these next 10 games, but we have to keep battling."

John Wall had 14 points and eight assists for the Wizards, who continued their horrendous start on the road, falling to 0-23 outside the nation's capital. The NBA mark for most road defeats to start a season belongs to the Dallas Mavericks, who lost 29 straight to open the 1992-93 campaign.

One night after the Grizzlies rallied from a 21-point third-quarter deficit win in Philadelphia, Memphis took advantage of a Washington team that fell into a double-digit hole in the second quarter and never recovered.

"We don't want to be a losing team, but we're coming out fighting," Wall said. "If we play hard every night and don't turn the ball over we're going to see ourselves in a lot of close games."

Holding a 33-28 lead after 12 minutes, Memphis expanded its advantage to 49-38 midway through the second following a Randolph jumper. A layup by Tony Allen in the final seconds of the half moved the hosts to a 59-50 cushion at the break.

The Wizards managed to get within six a few times in the third, but a back- breaking 13-0 run by the Grizzlies put some distance between the teams. Two free throws from Greivis Vasquez ended the burst for an 82-63 difference with 1 1/2 minutes left in the quarter.

The margin was the same moving to the fourth and the Wizards were never able to get the deficit back to single digits.
