Durant, Thunder finish homestand against Hornets
Feb 2, 2011 - 4:38 PM (Sports Network) - Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder will conclude a three-game homestand tonight versus the New Orleans Hornets. The Thunder are coming off a tough 108-103 loss to the star-studded Miami Heat in which Durant called Heat power forward Chris Bosh a 'fake tough guy' afterwards and finished with a game-high 33 points and 10 rebounds. Durant and Bosh got into a heated exchange during the game.
Jeff Green contributed 23 points and 11 boards, while Russell Westbrook compiled 21 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds for Oklahoma City, which had a six-game home winning streak stopped. The Thunder had won two in a row overall.
"I thought we played as hard as we could play," Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said. "We missed some shots normally we would make. The little things are very important to win basketball games and we'll continue to improve in those areas and hopefully we'll continue to get better."
Oklahoma City is 17-7 at home this season and leads the Northwest Division by two games over the Utah Jazz.
New Orleans was able to get back into the win column with a 97-89 triumph over road-weary Washington on Tuesday in the Big Easy.
Jason Smith posted a career-high 20 points for the Hornets, who learned before the game that center Emeka Okafor will miss about three weeks because of a strained left oblique muscle.
"I was just trying to fill the void," Smith said of Okafor. "He anchors our defense so well, and we really miss him and need to get him back healthy."
Trevor Ariza added 16 points and Chris Paul had 15 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. New Orleans ended a two-game slide which preceded a season-best 10-game winning streak. The Hornets are 12-13 away from the Hive.
Oklahoma City is 2-1 against New Orleans this season and has won four of the previous five matchups in this series.
