76ers tangle with Nets at the Rock
Feb 2, 2011 - 4:43 PM (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers will make the short trek over to the Garden State on Wednesday to face their Atlantic Division rival, the New Jersey Nets, at Prudential Center. The Sixers salvaged the back end of a brief two-game homestand on Sunday when Andre Iguodala scored 24 points, dished out seven assists and locked down Denver star Carmelo Anthony on the defensive end to lead Philadelphia past the Nuggets, 110-99.
Thaddeus Young came off the bench to provide 21 points and seven rebounds while Elton Brand supplied 15 points for the Sixers, who bounced back from Friday's collapse against Memphis to win for a fourth time in their last five games.
Anthony scored only 12 points on 3-of-12 shooting and matched a season-high by committing six turnovers.
"Andre Iguodala was fabulous. He was fabulous," Sixers head coach Doug Collins said. "He made a couple of plays that were maybe the best all season long that we have had. Andre is a very proud guy. Some of his best defensive efforts all season long have been against some of the best guys in the NBA."
The Nets also topped Denver at The Rock in their last encounter, a 115-99 win on Monday. Brook Lopez scored 27 points while Travis Outlaw added 21 to spark New Jersey in that one. Anthony had 37 points in that one.
Devin Harris scored nine points and handed out a career-high 18 assists while Kris Humphries provided 15 points and nine rebounds off the bench for the Nets, who halted a two-game slide.
"I'm proud of our guys," said New Jersey head coach Avery Johnson. "This team plays hard and is very coachable. We were playing against a veteran team that is really good offensively and we hung in there and got it done."
The Nets are now a solid 5-3 since billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov ended trade talks involving Anthony, who bounced back to score 37 points against New Jersey.
The Sixers have won six straight overall versus the Nets but are just 6-18 on the road this season. One of those wins, however, came in north Jersey back on Dec.14.
