Nets aim to cure road woes vs. Pistons

Feb 4, 2011 - 3:50 PM (Sports Network) - The Detroit Pistons will try to put the brakes on a four- game losing streak when they entertain the road-weary New Jersey Nets tonight from The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The Pistons suffered their fourth straight loss with Wednesday's 97-87 setback at home versus the Charlotte Bobcats. Ben Gordon had 20 points and Tayshaun Prince added 16 for the Pistons, who were down by as many as 18 points and fell to 12-11 as the host in 2010-11.

"It's tough because it looked like we had control of the game a little bit, but that's been our Achilles' heel, letting up those big runs," said Pistons forward Austin Daye, who had 11 points in a reserve role.

Detroit guard Rodney Stuckey missed his third consecutive game with a right shoulder contusion and is averaging 15.3 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds this season. He is listed as doubtful for tonight.

Tracy McGrady had 12 points in the loss to Charlotte and is averaging 11.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists in his last 24 games.

New Jersey has lost three of four games and suffered a 106-92 setback versus Philadelphia on Wednesday from the Prudential Center. Second-year guard Jrue Holiday recorded his first career triple-double with 11 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds to lead the Atlantic Division-rival 76ers.

Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries and Devin Harris each had 16 points for the Nets, while head coach Avery Johnson was ejected with 7:47 left in the third quarter after being hit with two technical fouls.

"On my way out, I told the guys we needed to pick it up. 'Just pick it up and play with more energy and passion.' That was my departing (message)," Johnson said. "We got it going a little bit, cut it to 9 or 11, but then they would make a big shot or get an offensive rebound or get on the break and score."

The Nets hope to end an 11-game road losing streak tonight and are just 3-23 away from Newark, NJ this season. New Jersey's last win as the visitor was on Dec. 21 at Memphis.

New Jersey has topped Detroit twice already this season and is unbeaten in the previous three meetings between the two clubs. The Nets, however, are winless in their previous seven contests at The Palace.
