Stoudemire powers Knicks to win over Sixers

Feb 7, 2011 - 12:02 AM New York, NY (Sports Network) - Amare Stoudemire matched a season-high with 41 points, snared seven rebounds, handed out four assists and blocked four shots to power New York past Philadelphia, 117-103, at Madison Square Garden.

Rookie Landry Fields scored a career-high 25, making 5-of-7 from three-point territory, and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Raymond Felton scored 13 and dished out 13 assists for the Knicks, who gained a split of the home-and-home series after falling in Philadelphia Friday night.

Stoudemire made 17-of-21 field goals and Fields connected on 10-of-13 attempts for the Knicks, who shot a sizzling 59.7 percent from the floor to halt a two- game slide.

"I felt good. I felt energetic," Stoudemire said. "I got rest yesterday in practice, so my legs felt ready to go. With that being said, I think we were all ready to go. It was a great team effort."

Elton Brand led the way with 28 points, while Lou Williams provided 19 points off the bench for the Sixers, who were spurned in their effort to win a season-high fourth consecutive game.

"We just kept playing uphill and Amare was super," Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins said.

Leading by four to begin the third quarter, the Knicks extended their lead to 79-64 on a Felton layup before the Sixers fashioned a 16-4 surge to draw within 83-80 on an Andre Iguodala dunk with 38 ticks left in the stanza.

Shawne Williams' trifecta, his only bucket of the game, eight seconds later gave New York a six-point edge heading into the fourth quarter.

Wilson Chandler and Toney Douglas buried three-pointers to cap a 9-0 run that increased the lead to 92-80 with 10:40 remaining in the game.

The Sixers clawed their way back to within 101-94 before a Fields triple from the left corner and a Stoudemire jumper lengthened the lead back to 12 with 4:15 to play.

Fields put the game out of reach with another left corner three to make it 111-97 with 2 1/2 minutes to go.

After Lou Williams' three-point play tied the game at 22 with just under 2 1/2 minutes to go, the Knicks closed with a 9-2 spurt, including a layup and triple by Fields, to take a seven-point lead after the first 12 minutes.

Trailing by nine, the Sixers put together a 13-3 burst, capped off by a Brand layup and short jumper, to take a 45-44 lead with 4:23 left before the break.

Stoudemire then scored nine points in the final 2:06 of the half to give the hosts a 55-51 edge at the intermission.

Chandler finished with 12 points and Douglas ended with 10 in the win...The Knicks made 11-of-27 from beyond the arc...Brand made 10-of-14 shots and added five caroms...Thaddeus Young connected on 8-of-12 to supply 16 points off the bench for the Sixers, who also got 14 points, eight assists and five boards from Iguodala...Philly shot 54.2 percent from the floor but hit only three from long distance.
