Bobcats down Celtics; Allen inches closer to record

Feb 8, 2011 - 4:36 AM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Gerald Wallace posted a double-double, finishing with a team-high 19 points and 16 rebounds, as the Charlotte Bobcats held on to edge the Boston Celtics, 94-89, at Time Warner Cable Arena.

Shaun Livingston came off the bench to score 18 points, while Gerald Henderson hit some key shots down the stretch to finish with 15 for the Bobcats, who had dropped four of their previous five coming into the contest. Kwame Brown grabbed 12 boards in the win.

"It was just magical. I just can't say enough good things about this team," Bobcats head coach Paul Silas said about his team's effort. "They never quit and just hung in there and came away with the win."

Stephen Jackson scored 11 points for Charlotte, but was ejected late in the second quarter after picking up a pair of technicals for arguing a foul call.

Ray Allen led all scorers with 25 points for Boston, which was coming off a 91-80 win over Orlando on Sunday and has split its last six games.

Allen made both of his attempts from beyond the arc and needs two three- pointers to pass Reggie Miller's NBA record of 2,560 shots from three-point range. Paul Pierce netted 22 points, while Rajon Rondo had 10 points and 14 assists in defeat.

"They're a different team from the last time we played them," Boston forward Kevin Garnett said. "I think we had our chances to win the game, but we didn't take advantage of them."

Tied at 79-79, Livingston drained a medium range jumper to give the Bobcats a two-point lead with 4:27 remaining in the fourth and they would go up by three after a nifty Henderson reverse layup just under a minute later.

The Bobcats advantage was six at 89-83 with 1:57 to play after an Eduardo Najera three, but Boston scored four in a row to cut the deficit to two with under a minute left. Livingston was fouled and made 1-of-2 for a 90-87 Charlotte advantage with 35.4 seconds to go.

Pierce missed a driving layup at the other end and Nazr Mohammed grabbed the rebound, was fouled and drained one a the line for a four-point cushion with 21.7 seconds left and the Bobcats would hold on from there.

The Celtics were ahead 29-25 after 12 minutes and held a 40-37 advantage near the midway point of the second before Wallace's dunk finished off an 11-2 run to put Charlotte in front 48-42.

The Celtics responded by scoring the next eight points to re-take the lead with 1:38 before the half and to make matters worse for the Bobcats, Jackson was whistled for a foul against Garnett, then was ejected after receiving a pair of technicals for arguing the call.

Charlotte would regroup to hold a 51-50 lead at the intermission.

Back-to-back threes by Allen and Pierce capped a 13-2 surge to give Boston a 65-57 advantage with 6:46 left in the period and the visitors were ahead by four after three quarters.

Game Notes

Boston guard Marquis Daniels is expected to miss a month of action after colliding with Orlando guard Gilbert Arenas under the basket in Sunday's 91-80 win. Daniels had to be removed from the floor on a stretcher and suffered a bruised spinal cord. He did have movement in both his arms and legs...Charlotte, which snapped a six-game slide to the Celtics, improved to 13-13 at home this season. Boston fell 15-9 on the road...Garnett had nine points and 14 rebounds in defeat.
