Griffin leads Clippers into New York
Feb 9, 2011 - 4:09 PM (Sports Network) - Blake Griffin hopes to bring his highlight-reel to the Mecca tonight when the reeling Los Angeles Clippers resume their lengthy road trip against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The Clippers have lost the first three games on a season-long 11-game trek with the latest setback coming in Orlando on Tuesday. Dwight Howard finished with 22 points and 20 rebounds in that one as the Magic used a strong fourth quarter to top LA, 101-85, at Amway Center.
Baron Davis paced the Clippers with a game-high 25 points alongside eight assists and eight boards. Griffin was held to 10 points and 12 boards, while Ike Diogu scored 18 off the bench for Los Angeles, which has dropped four straight overall.
"We came out a few times with too many jumpers, not enough ball movement," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "We got very stagnant."
LA, which is a miserable 3-18 as the visitor this season, will also visit the Cavaliers, Raptors, Bucks, T-Wolves, Thunder, and Hornets, before returning to the left coast to play visitor against the Lakers at Staples Center on Feb. 25.
The Knicks, meanwhile, salvaged a home-and-home weekend set with the Sixers by winning the back end on Sunday when All-Star Amare Stoudemire matched a season-high with 41 points, snared seven rebounds, handed out four assists and blocked four shots to power New York to a 117-103 win at Madison Square Garden.
Rookie Landry Fields scored a career-high 25, making 5-of-7 from three-point territory, and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Raymond Felton scored 13 and dished out 13 assists for the Knicks, who fell in Philadelphia Friday night but have won eight of their last 11 in Gotham.
Stoudemire made 17-of-21 field goals and Fields connected on 10-of-13 attempts for the Knicks, who shot a sizzling 59.7 percent from the floor to halt a two- game slide.
"I felt good. I felt energetic," Stoudemire said. "I got rest yesterday in practice, so my legs felt ready to go. With that being said, I think we were all ready to go. It was a great team effort."
New York has won three straight over the Clips, including a 124-115 win in Hollywood back on Nov. 20. Griffin, however, had 44 points and 15 rebounds in that one and deposited a monster dunk over Knicks 7-foot-1 rookie center Timofey Mozgov.
