Kobe, Lakers make a stop at Knicks
Feb 11, 2011 - 4:16 PM (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Lakers hope to remain perfect on their annual Grammy road trip when they shoot for their eighth straight win over the New York Knicks. The Lakers improved to 3-0 on their seven-game trek in Boston last night when Kobe Bryant finished with a game-high 23 points and the Lakers spoiled Ray Allen's record-breaking night by topping the Celtics, 92-86, at TD Garden.
Pau Gasol added 20 points and 10 rebounds while Andrew Bynum posted 16 points and nine boards for the Lakers, who have won four of five overall. Shannon Brown and Lamar Odom posted 12 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench.
"Kobe didn't win the game with his offense," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "Kobe won the game with his defense. He was everywhere, trapping the post, blocking shots."
Allen led the Celtics with 20 points and broke Reggie Miller's NBA record for career three-pointers made after entering the game only one shy of the mark of 2,560.
The Lakers, of course, defeated Boston in an epic seven-game series last season to win their 16th NBA crown and deny the Celtics their 18th.
The Knicks, meanwhile, have struggled recently and lost for the third time in four games on Wednesday when Baron Davis scored 16 points and dished out a season-high 16 assists, as the Clippers used a balanced attack to take down New York, 116-108.
Amare Stoudemire finished with 23 points and five boards for the Knicks. Danilo Gallinari donated 21 points and five rebounds for New York, which got 18 points and six boards from Timofey Mozgov.
"We just did not come out to play in the first half. You can see it on their faces," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said. "The energy level mostly on the defensive end and that translates on the offensive end. We started up the energy at halftime, gathered a little bit and started playing hard."
LA will be attempting to sweep the home-and-home season series with the Knicks for a fourth straight season tonight.
