Sixers and Wolves clash at Target Center
Feb 12, 2011 - 3:44 PM (Sports Network) - A day after recording their most impressive win of the season the Philadelphia 76ers face off with Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center.Jrue Holiday scored 27 points and Elton Brand had 17 rebounds on Friday as the Sixers held on for a 77-71 victory Friday over the San Antonio Spurs.
Holiday had 13 points in the first quarter to stake the Sixers to an early lead, and he buried four straight free throws at the end of the game to finish off their upset of the NBA's top team.
Spencer Hawes added 13 points and Brand scored eight as Philadelphia won for the fifth time in seven games, and for the fourth straight time at home against the Spurs.
San Antonio shot a season-low 33 percent, turned the ball over 16 times and gave up 21 fast break points in a win Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins called "marvelous."
"What an incredible display by our guys defensively tonight," said Collins. "I have never been more proud."
The Timberwolves, who will be kicking off a three-game homestand tonight, fell to a miserable 4-24 on the road in Indianapolis on Friday when Dahntay Jones scored all of his season- high 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead surging Indiana to a 116-105 come-from-behind win over Minnesota.
Love totaled 22 points and 15 rebounds for his 39th straight double- double, while Nikola Pekovic tied a career high with 15 points and brought down six boards.
Both Wayne Ellington and Lazar Hayward provided 14 points apiece in the loss for a banged-up Minnesota club that played without forwards Michael Beasley (sprained left ankle) and Martell Webster (back spasms), guard Luke Ridnour (personal) and center and Darko Milicic (sprained left hip flexor). All four players are expected to sit out again tonight.
The Wolves, who are 9-16 in the Twin Cities, will also meet Portland and the LA Clippers on their residency. The Sixers, meanwhile, have dropped four straight and eight of nine at Target Center.
