Sixers and Grizzlies meet in Memphis

Feb 15, 2011 - 3:51 PM (Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies will be in search of their fourth straight win tonight, when they close out a three-game homestand versus the Philadelphia 76ers at FedEx Forum.

Memphis recorded its third consecutive victory with Sunday's 116-108 win over Carmelo Anthony and the Denver Nuggets, as Zach Randolph led the way with 14 points and a game-best 16 rebounds. Darrell Arthur finished with a team-high 24 points off the bench and Rudy Gay netted 23 for the Grizzlies, who improved to 18-8 at home this season and have won 11 of their last 14 games overall.

The Grizzlies were able to survive a game-best 28 points from Anthony.

"You always have to pick up your level of play when you play against someone like [Anthony]," Gay said.

Mike Conley finished with 17 points and five assists for Memphis. Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo is eligible to return Tuesday after serving a 10-game suspension for violating the league's anti-drug program with a positive test. Mayo tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a workout supplement.

Mayo is averaging 12.2 points this season and has spent the majority of 2010-11 coming off the bench under head coach Lionel Hollins.

Meanwhile, the 76ers will continue a three-game road trip tonight and began the trek with Saturday's 107-87 drubbing of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Thaddeus Young was one of seven players to score in double figures with 18 points, while Jodie Meeks netted 16 points, Andre Iguodala 15 and Lou Williams 13 off the bench for the Sixers, who have won two straight and nine of their last 12 games, and were coming off a big home win over San Antonio.

"A very workmanlike performance by us," said Philadelphia head coach Doug Collins.

Elton Brand and Spencer Hawes ended with 12 points apiece in the win. The 76ers will also visit Houston and are 9-19 as the guest this season. Brand's scoring has slipped lately, as he's averaging 10.7 points over three games after posting 19.8 ppg in the previous nine contests. Meeks is averaging 13.1 ppg in his past nine.

Since starting the season 3-13, Philadelphia has gone 23-15. It has scored 100-plus points in eight of the past 11 games.

Philadelphia and Memphis will wrap up their two-game series this season. The Grizzlies won the first matchup, 99-94, on Jan. 28 at Wells Fargo Center. The 76ers blew a seemingly comfortable 21-point lead late in the third quarter and committed 11 of their 22 turnovers in the final period that saw Memphis erupt for 42 points. Memphis outscored the Sixers, 42-21, over the final 12 minutes.

The Sixers are 20-9 in the last 29 meetings with the Grizzlies, losers in three straight as the host in this series. Philly has won 10 of its last 14 trips to FedEx Forum.
